Pillar Beccon travels across Andor to discover her mother’s mysterious past. But the danger is never far away as a demon seeks to destroy her.
An orphaned null without a hint of magic, Pillar can’t remember ever belonging anywhere, especially not in the Freemage commune where she grew up. After she graduates from high school, she jumps at the chance to learn why her mother ran away from her family.
During an accidental encounter, Grylerrque, a surviving commander from The Demon Wars, recognizes what Pillar is and decides to feed the girl’s life force to her clutch. The demon sends her minions to capture the girl. Pillar escapes with the help of an unexpected allay, only to learn she was pulled out of the frying pan and thrown into the fire.
Running from Demons tells the story of Pillar’s search to find a place to call her own. The book continues the chronicles of Andor, a land where the mundane world clashes with one of magic and demons from another plane prey. If you love paranormal stories of discovery and mayhem, this is the story for you.”
“Wonderful story by Laura Furuta”
The story Running from Demons by M.K. Theodoratus is a coming of age/fantasy book. It is a wonderful story that I enjoyed reading. There is magic, demons, and action scenes. I found myself getting lost in the pages. I enjoyed reading about Pillar Beccon. Pillar is a young girl who is trying to find out more about her mother’s past. She is considered a “null” or someone without magic. Reading about how others treat Pillar when they learn this was at times sad as the attitude towards her was not always kind. I found Pillar to be stubborn and independent as well as one that cares about others. I grew to love her character with each chapter that I read. Unfortunately, there is someone who has taken an interest in Pillar. Grylerrque is a demon who has discovered Pillar and what she is. She is determined to capture Pillar and feed her life force to her clutch. As Pillar tries to learn more about her mother’s past she meets many different characters. Some are openly hostile/rude while others are kind and help her. Will Pillar learn why her mother left her family? Will Grylerrque succeed in capturing Pillar? What does the future hold for her? Read this book to find out. This is a book that does a wonderful job in world building and the description of the places that Pillar visits and stays at. The attention to detail made it so that I felt the I was right there with Pillar seeing what she does. I also felt empathy for Pillar as she doesn’t feel that she fits in. This story has many other characters that are introduced. I enjoyed reading about each one’s part in the story. This is a wonderfully written book and I would recommend reading it.
