“I read it in one night, which is a good sign”
Los Angeles, California, and a severed head is found beneath the Hollywood Sign.
Fresh from wrapping his previous case, LAPD Detective Sam Leroy is called to the scene. Now he is tasked with identifying the victim and finding the rest of him.
Not necessarily in that order.
Following up on the few leads they have, Leroy and his partner, Detective Ray Quinn, find themselves unraveling a complex puzzle, one which began two thousand miles from home, and which involves sex, drugs, extortion, and ultimately murder.
And as if that wasn’t enough, while Leroy follows the trail, he is feeling himself coming to the end of a relationship, and may possibly be making decisions he might later regret.

When a headless body was found in a dumpster, LAPD Detective Sam Leroy and his partner Detective Ray Quinn were called out to investigate. Later, the head was found by some hikers near the Hollywood sign. Then the detectives investigated the belongings of a hotel customer who didn’t check out and found some pornographic photos. This led Leroy to Birmingham, Alabama and the office of P. I. William Kirk, the decapitated victim. Kirk’s calendar led Leroy to J. T. Hightower who revealed a blackmail plot he was subject to and his pastor who sent Kirk to LA to deal with the extortion. Another body was found in a dumpster, this one was intact, Evald Mets. How is it all connected? You’ll have to read the book to find out, and you’ll be glad you did. I was gifted the book for the purpose of an impartial review.
